It’s a great day to be representing Cooper Aerobics at IHRSA! The International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association opened the largest convention of fitness professionals in the world in Las Vegas this morning. Thousands of people will be in attendance from more than 70 countires. This year is my first year to participate, and I’m so excited. Joining me is Mary Edwards, Director of Professional Training, and Meredith Rosson, Director of Youth Programs, for Cooper Fitness Center in Dallas and Roger Sargent, General Manager for Cooper Fitness Center at Craig Ranch.

This week will be filled with activities for the mind and body. From early morning workouts and educational sessions to networking opportunities and a huge trade show, it’s not your average conference. I’m surrounded by a lot of energy and enthusiasm for healthy living! So inspiring!

While Cooper attendees may be small in number, our presence is huge. Today we kicked off the convention with a global announcement—a newly formed partnership with one of the largest fitness equipment manufacturers, Precor. Together we will shape the future of fitness by creating new ways to improve health through technology.

The Cooper philosophy has long been to use data and science to inform and develop proven practices to make people healthier. We’re applying that same approach with our alliance with Precor through their Preva networked fitness solution. Basically what that means is through touchscreen consoles on select cardio equipment, exercisers will be able to track their Cooper Aerobics Points, learn Cooper health and wellness information and upload personal biometric data to a private, protected account. Because the technology is cloud-based, exercisers can access the information on their mobile device and on similar machines worldwide.

Imagine the day when you can hop on an elliptical at home or a fitness center, log in with a swipe of your finger, see how your exercise is improving your heart health, lowering your cholesterol or helping you lose weight. You travel oversees for business or pleasure and jump on the hotel gym’s treadmill with the same technology… your plan and progress is at your fingertips. Then you take that information and share it with your physician or email it to your personal trainer to help you achieve your health goals. All of that’s in near our future. And thanks to Cooper and Precor, it will be a first in the industry. Read the full new release here.

This week I’ll be reporting on my days spent at IHRSA. I hope you follow along here, plus I’ll be live tweeting from general sessions and the trade show floor. Viva Cooper and Viva Las Vegas!
